Five D-LDH isoenzyme genes ( ldb0101, ldb0813, ldb1010, ldb1147 and ldb2021) from L. bulgaricus ATCC11842 were separated and over-expressed in Escherichia coli JM109 using p UC18 as the expression plasmid. The shake-flask fermentation of recombinant E.coli indicated that the D-LDH enzymes Ldb0101 and Ldb1010 played more important roles in D-lactic acid biosynthesis in L.bulgaricus.
