Antioxidant activity of water extracts from eleven kinds of pollen

  • The antioxidant activities of different pollen water extracts were evaluated by ABTS+scavenging method, ·OH scavenging capability method and total reducing ability method. The total content of protein, polysaccharide, polyphenols and flavonoids were evaluated. Results indicated that eleven kinds of pollen extracts had strong scavenging effect on ABTS+and ·OH respectively. Moreover, their scavenging activities against ABTS+and ·OH revealed a significant difference ( p < 0.05) . The significant difference ( p < 0.05) were also existed in the total reducing ability.Three antioxidant capacity indicated that cortex phellodendri pollen, corn pollen and pearl plum pollen had stronger antioxidant capacity than others. Through determining bioactive components, higher polysaccharide content were discovered with values of 49 ~ 145 mg /g, followed by polyphenols contents with11 ~ 21 mg /g. Correlation analysis showed that the polysaccharide and polyphenol had a significant influence on the total reducing ability ( p < 0.05) , polyphenol content also had a significant effect on scavenging ABTS+ ( p <0.05) .
