Abstract
The antioxidant activity of Foeniculum vulgare Mill in vitro was evaluated, and the relation of the antioxidant activity and total polyphenols and flavonoids was studied. Results showed that F. vulgare ethyl acetate and n-Butanol extracts had good antioxidant activity in vitro. DPPH and ABTS+radical scavenging activity of ethyl acetate extract (IC50 was (37.67±0.21) μg/mL and (24.88±0.07) μg/mL) were higher than that of n-Butanol extract (IC50 was (47.48 ±0.18) μg/mL and (34.19 ±0.19) μg/mL) , and had significant difference (p<0.05) . n-Butanol extract exhibited higher ferric reducing antioxidant power (TEAC was (569.9±0.69) μmol/g) than that of ethyl acetate extract (TEAC was (281.23±4.73) μmol/g) , and had significant difference (p<0.05) . DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity of ethyl acetate extract might be related to its high flavonoids content. Ferric reducing antioxidant power of n-Butanol extract might be related to its high total phenols content.
