Study on angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition activity and active ingredient of traditional Chinese medicines

  • Evaluation the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of 32 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines, and identified the active ingredient of Lycium barbarum L.ACE inhibition activity of traditional Chinese medicine was evaluated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The herb extract, which showed the highest ACE inhibitory activity, was further separated by column chromatography and the ACE inhibitory activity of each fraction was compared. Most herbs showed ACE inhibitory activity.Among them, Lycium barbarum L.exhibited the highest inhibitory rate (92.30%) .The Lycium barbarum L.extracts were separated using D-101 macroporous adsorption resins and the fraction which eluted by 50% ethyl alcohol exhibited the maximal inhibitory effect. The 50% ethyl alcohol fraction was separated using silica gel column, which gained the fraction and active ingredient of higher inhibitory effect. In 32 herbs, Lycium barbarum L.showed the highest ACE inhibitory activity.Besides, macroporous resin and silica gel could be used for pre-separation of Lycium barbarum L.extracts.
